Library Week celebrated at Hillcrest

Pupils from local schools which celebrated at the Hillcrest Library were encouraged to take up library cards and visit the facility often.

THE Hillcrest Library celebrated Library Week on March 17 and 19, with local schools visiting the facility to learn more about the services it renders.

On March 17, learners from Embo Child Educare/Academy and Zimisele PreSchool commemorated Library Week at Hillcrest Library, and on March 19, pupils from Mnamatha and Vusumuzi Primary schools were at the facility.

The eThekwini Municipality’s Fire Department from the Gillitts station was part of the celebrations and educated learners on how to protect themselves during fires.

Sbu Mthethwa from the Jes Foord Foundation raised awareness on being cautious of would-be sexual violators.

Velo Bhengu from the Hillcrest Library told stories to the learners and informed them about the services rendered at the library, while a colleague, Philisiwe Shozi, taught learners about how to take care of books.

Librarian Nomusa Martini encouraged learners to have library cards, and her colleague Fike Ntoakane gave a prayer to bless the celebrations.

Maureen Makhanya gave the vote of thanks, and extended a word of gratitude to councillor Linda Mchunu for his donations.

Martini said: “Both days were a success and the children were very happy, and as the Hillcrest Library we were glad to host them.”
