Palmiet Nature Reserve hosts open day

Palmiet Nature Reserve will celebrate 20 years of protected status with a free family-friendly Open Day packed with activities.

THE Palmiet Nature Reserve will host an Open Day on Saturday, June 27 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its declaration as a protected area under the KZN Nature Conservation Management Act.

While the reserve was officially established in 1972 as a Public Open Space comprising 13 hectares and administered by the Wildlife Society on behalf of the former Borough of Westville, it was on June 1, 2006 that Palmiet achieved official Nature Reserve status, securing greater protection for its rich biodiversity and natural heritage.
