Electronic waste container launched in Hillcrest
Residents are urged to recycle electronics, batteries, light bulbs and similar items responsibly at the Hillcrest Mr Price Home store.
A NEW permanent electronic waste (e-waste) collection container was officially launched at Mr Price Home Hillcrest on July 30 by Circular Energy NPC.
Located at The Village Centre, 29 Old Main Road, this dedicated recycling hub aims to give local consumers an accessible, responsible solution for disposing of broken or unwanted household gadgets and appliances under the banner: “Small Items. Big Impact.”
This rollout serves to promote ecological recovery and ensure immediate regional community compliance.

The initiative directly supports Circular Energy’s core mission to increase convenient collection infrastructure across South Africa.
“Our goal is to shift consumer habits away from throwing small electronics into regular municipal rubbish bins,” said Patricia Schröder, CEO of Circular Energy NPC.
“By collaborating with retail spaces like Mr Price Home, we are bringing circular economy solutions directly into everyday consumer spaces. Every item collected contributes to a cleaner environment and a more circular economy.
“By participating, residents become part of the solution to South Africa’s growing e-waste challenge, ensuring hazardous components are safely recovered and processed instead of polluting local ecosystems.”
The new collection container is explicitly designed for small electrical and electronic appliances, including:
• IT & Mobile Devices: Old smartphones, tablets, laptops, chargers, and network cables.
• Household Gadgets: Keyboards, remote controls, blenders, hair dryers, and kettles.
• Consumables: Used household batteries and old light bulbs/lamps.
