Flowers inspire local artist
Woza Woya Artist of the Month is a talented bead artist from KwaNyuswa. Nobuhle Ncube creates vibrant floral jewellery and beaded flowers inspired by flowers.
AUGUST is Women’s Month and Woza Moya features Nobuhle Ncube as the Artist of the Month.
Ncube is a bead artist from KwaNyuswa whose work is inspired by the beauty of flowers. She said she was introduced to beading by her late sister, Thandiwe Chamane, one of the pioneering women behind the iconic Little Traveller.
The Upper Highway artist began her own beading journey by making Little Travellers, including the girl carrying a bouquet of flowers, a design she introduced herself.

Known for her creativity, Ncube is always exploring new ideas. She now creates intricate floral jewellery and beaded flowers, transforming tiny beads into vibrant botanical designs.
“The artwork on display celebrates creativity and collaboration. For this piece, Nobuhle taught a group of fellow crafters how to create the beaded flowers, which were then brought together to form this striking artwork,” said Woza Moya’s Paula Thomson.
The Artist Wall is sponsored by the 100% Foundation, whose support provides local artists with a platform to showcase their work. Each featured artwork is reproduced as a greeting card, creating ongoing exposure and income for the artist. By purchasing a card, you are helping support local talent and celebrating South African creativity.
The concept behind the Woza Moya Artists’ Wall and Artists’ Cards is to create and showcase artists’ work. Woza Moya is the economic empowerment project of the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust and assists the artist by marketing their work for the month. The Woza Moya Artists’ Wall thanked the 100% Foundation for coming on board with an ongoing sponsorship and making this monthly event possible.
