Gospel Jazz album listening session

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents Mbuso Nxumalo’s Gospel Jazz album listening session on Wednesday, September 16 at 17:30.

Rooted in Gospel and shaped by Jazz, African musical traditions, contemporary influences, and Mbuso’s own experiences as a musician and educator, the album is planned for release in 2027.

The album explores a sound that is both deeply personal and culturally connected.

At the heart of the project are original compositions, accompanied by his own creative arrangements and reinterpretations of songs that have inspired him throughout his musical journey.

The listening session will give audiences a rare opportunity to hear these works before the official album release and to discover the ideas, memories, influences, and musical decisions behind them Mbuso Nxumalo – Gospel Jazz Album listening session, an album in the making.

Saturday, September 19

South African National Society meeting

Members and friends of the South African National Society (SANS) are invited to attend its next meeting at St Margaret’s Anglican Church, 11 Delaware Avenue, Durban North, on Saturday, September 19, from 09:30 for 10:00. The guest speaker will be David Hulme.

Cost to SANS members will be R50 and R70 for visitors. A car guard will be on duty and contributions are welcome.

September 19 and 20

Calls for auditions for Robin Hood theatrical

The Westville Theatre Club has announced that auditions for its next family pantomime, Robin Hood, will be held on Saturday, September 19, from 15:30 to 17:30, and on Sunday, September 20, from 11:30 to 13:30 at the theatre club adjacent to the Westville public swimming pool.

Interested parties have been asked to note that there is no need to attend both audition slots.

The writer-director, Melanie Visser, is looking for actors, singers and dancers, with 18 roles available for ages 16 and upwards.

“Anyone eager to get on stage and be part of this great team experience is welcome to audition.

“Those auditioning for singing and/or dancing roles should prepare and provide a backing track. Those auditioning for acting roles will be asked to read from a monologue or script provided at the audition.

“Performances will be staged on 4 to 6 and 11 to 13 December. Please do not audition if you cannot make the performance dates.

“Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday each week, or as arranged,” said Visser.

October 17 and 24

The Upper Highway Concert Ensemble

Building on the success of its previous performances, the Upper Highway Concert Ensemble is back to share a beautiful selection of musical pieces.

The musicians will perform a varied programme showcasing both individual and collective talent.

Refreshments will be available during the interval. While admission is free, donations will be accepted at the door.

October 24 at the NG Krantzkloof

The venue for the November 21 show will be announced in due time.
