ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said a lane had to be closed to allow for a critically injured patient to be airlifted to the nearest hospital.
“I would advise motorists to avoid this area at all costs until the scene is cleared,” said Jamieson
Mi7 Emergency Medical Services reported that they had also responded to the scene where a motorcyclist was trapped beneath a truck.
“It is believed that two trucks and a motorcycle were involved in the collision.

“Mi7 paramedics arrived to find the motorcyclist trapped beneath one of the trucks with serious injuries, while a truck driver sustained moderate injuries.
“Paramedics are currently treating and stabilising both patients while awaiting additional emergency services to assist with the rescue operation. Traffic on the N3 towards Pietermaritzburg is severely affected, and motorists are urged to approach the area with caution and expect significant delays,” said Mi7 paramedics.
