Kloof’s green mile goes pink for cancer awareness

Trees along Kloof's Old Main Road have been wrapped in pink to raise cancer awareness and honour loved ones.

KLOOF’S Green Mile along Old Main Road has taken on a new look, with trees wrapped in pink fabric as part of a community initiative aimed at raising awareness and honouring those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

The initiative is a collaboration between Pam Golding Properties Highway and The Kloof Project. Its aim is to bring community members together to show support, remembrance and hope.

Community members were invited to join forces, dressed in pink, to wrap trees along the road in pink fabric. “The initiative is about honouring someone we love, supporting someone fighting cancer, and remembering someone we have lost,” said Kloof Project’s Kerry Harper.

The campaign added another heartfelt element, a Tree of Hope and Remembrance, located outside the Pam Golding Properties Highway offices.

“The tree provides a quiet and welcoming space for members of the community to pause, reflect and remember someone special. Visitors are invited to write a name or personal message on a stone and place it beneath the tree,” said Harper

Pam Golding Properties Highway and The Kloof Project expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to bringing the initiative to life.

“We thank everyone who helped make this initiative possible and invite the wider Highway community to visit the tree and add their own message of hope or remembrance,” said Pam Golding’s Alwina Muggeridge.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
