It’s no longer safe to walk the streets

Letter to the Editor - week ending 23 August 2013.

EDITOR – There was an unfortunate incident when leaving Home Affairs on Tuesday 13th August. We (I had my two daughters with me) were walking on the pavement on Old Main Rd at 3.20pm after leaving Home Affairs. Two young males, who were well dressed, walked slightly past us then quickly came around us. I had removed my rings at home but had forgotten to remove my chain, which was ripped off. An attempt was made at grabbing my handbag. Unfortunately this is the second incident since January, the last being while I was in the car with two of my children, also on Old Main Road Pinetown. My children are traumatised and I think that it is awful that we are no longer safe enough to even walk on a street or drive in a car. Surely something needs to be done to curb this criminal activity?
