There is light at the end of the tunnel

Letter to the Editor - week ending 6 September 2013.

EDITOR – I read your editorial (From the Newsdeck-‘Sistas” ) about the latest dishonest politician/government official (these days it is hard to tell the difference between them – they all seem to belong to the same ANC Party) with interest.

Earlier in the day I read Helen Zille’s SA Today News Letter lamenting the cost of the Marikana and Arms Deal enquiries. The estimate is that the Seriti Commission will cost more than R101 874 284.00! This is taxpayers money to investigate the Arms Deal which cost an estimated R70 billion. This is R 30 billion more than the original agreed cost in 1999. Then of course there is Mr. Jacob Zuma who is fighting to keep the so called spy tapes from the DA through the courts. So much for wanting his day in court!

There is light at the end of the tunnel and Helen Zille ends her letter with this comment “But every democracy gives its taxpayers a chance to rectify these gross abuses of power. That chance is called a general election. That is the mechanism that a democracy offers the people to fire leaders who abuse their money to advance their private interests. If voters re-elect their abusers, they have no-one to blame but themselves. After all, in a democracy people get the government they deserve,”

The election is next year. Remember these words when election day arrives and vote accordingly if you do not want further abuse.
