EDITOR – While my sympathies go to all those injured and the families of the those killed, I am compelled to comment.
It is time for every motorist to behave in a responsible and law abiding manner (and that includes you and me). Motorists throughout the country need to become more responsible behind the wheel of their vehicles.
Banning trucks on Field’s Hill will not solve the problem. Firstly, it is a public road and trucks have as much right to be on it as we do. Trucks travelling down the Hill actually assist in slowing down the speeding private vehicles. With no trucks on the hill it will become a race track for the thousands of civilian drivers who already ignore the speed limit.
If you wish to encourage trucks to use the Toll Road why not allow them to go through free – they are not paying as it is, so if there was free passage for them on the N3 they’d not want to use Field’s Hill. Why are Metro Police always at the St Agnes’ intersection? Because seldom does anyone stop at the stop street and the rules of the road are not being obeyed!
We live below the 3-way stop in Impangele Road and I am certain that each person that has had so much to say about this horrific accident is the very same driver who races through the stop street daily with no concern for home owners trying to leave or enter their properties! I invite you to come and sit inside our property and monitor for yourselves the speed at which drivers travel through the stop street. You will be astounded as were the Metro officers who once monitored and fined drivers, but alas we don’t see them anymore.
When one of our family members are killed will you be so quick to hold vigils, protests, etc at our intersection? Why not have a protest before we become a statistic? Once everyone stops pointing fingers and starts being a law abiding citizen, only then will things improve.
