Public transport project is just a dream

Pinetown resident, Rowan du Toit, speaks out about the new public transport network.

EDITOR – You will forgive if I’m rather sceptical of any grand future plans surrounding public transport in Durban and it’s satellite towns and suburbs, especially having been one of many thousands deprived of dependable, safe public transport since the collapse of Remant Alton in 2009.

However it is truly heartening to know that everyone in eThekwini (and not just those currently residing in areas where the ANC garners much of its votes), will enjoy decent public transport by 2027, despite the fact that by that time many of us currently requiring such transport with be either dead or retired.

Still, it is the thought that counts, but just one question. Why does one have to travel from Pinetown to Durban or vice versa via Bridge City in Umlazi rather than direct, if the municipality is trying to cut costs, or am I just reading their convoluted plans incorrectly?
