EDITOR – On Thursday, 19 May at about 2.30pm, the electricity went off again and, after numerous calls to totally incompetent people, I gave up in order to just wait it out as always.
However, 15 hours later at approximately 5am it came back on. Other areas around us came on after just a couple of hours, which is acceptable, but we, as always, were left in the dark for so much longer. Why? The excuse is ‘cable fault’. It is a general term when no one seems to know what they are doing.
My question is again; why is it that it takes so long to fix a relatively easy fault? It used to take about two hours but now takes 15 hours-plus. I suspect it is because the contractors that are used are unqualified and incompetent and are abusing the overtime by dragging out a repair that should have been fixed 10 hours prior. It’s no wonder that Eskom is in such a mess.
