EDITOR – From Friday, 29 July until Sunday, 31 July, the music coming from the Moyito Lounge in the Pineridge Shopping Centre was horrific. The music on Friday night lasted until 6.45 am, basically we were awake the whole night. Not only was the music blaring, but there was shouting and screaming. We are not the only one’s that have complained that the windows in the house rattle when the volume is high. Then the music started up in the afternoon at full volume.
We were so fed up we left our house, so an afternoon nap was out of the question. The funny thing was when we passed the place there were hardly any people there. So was the music put up to attract people? This pattern followed throughout the weekend. I look forward to weekends to relax and refresh myself for the new week ahead. Residents around this area must have a very difficult time trying to concentrate at work on a Monday. This pattern occurs every weekend, with Sunday nights being the worst.
We have been unable to complain to the SAPS in this regard, as the 10111 number is answered by a Gauteng office and they are unable to assist. They have on one or two occasions told us to dial 112.
Other residents around us have also complained that they have found it difficult to get past the vehicles parked on the roadway at the Lounge. On one occasion it was as early as 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. This has been going on for almost a year. Something must be done about this.
By definition, noise pollution takes place when there is either excessive amount of noise or an unpleasant sound that causes temporary disruption in the natural balance. This definition is usually applicable to sounds or noises that are unnatural in either their volume or their production.
To our knowledge the law also states that the volume of the music should be reduced after 10pm and there should be no disturbance caused after midnight.
