Dear ‘Yours Very Tired Kloof’.
Do I have empathy with you?
You bet.
I live in a complex in Springside Road, Hillcrest, where we have recently had a subcontractor of Telkom spend some two months or so installing fibre optic cables on the property.
A few days before the scheme executives announced that the system was now “live” and promised great things in future as far as connectivity, speed and what what were concerned, guess what, I too have been plagued ever since at night with the same high-pitched whine emanating from Springside Road (‘sonic wave sound’ as you aptly describe it) until the early morning.
Like you, I am unable to sleep and am quite desperate.
I can only presume that this new noise pollution, which is probably illegal as far as by laws are concerned, is a result of this fibre optic installation.
Today I have written to the subcontractor but as everyone is now in holiday mood, my chances of an answer are minimal.
Is anyone else in the vicinity suffering sleepless nights as a result of this constant whine at night?
It is the equivalent of Chinese water torture.
Sleepless in Hillcrest
