HIGHWAY’S super hero, Jeffrey Kilner, cleaned up the island in the middle of the harbour this weekend.
Trying to make a difference and a positive impact on the city that is sadly nicknamed, Dirtbin, a group of Point Yacht Club members and friends motored to the island in the middle of the harbour and spent a few hours cleaning up the litter.
Close on 100 bags were ferried back onto land, filled with oil-soaked rubbish, polystyrene take-away containers, cans bottles, shoes, and thousands of plastic packets. The haul also included a complete car bumper, a bar fridge and several intact light bulbs.
The clean-up initiative, spearheaded by passionate catamaran sailor, Wayne Smith, will become a regular initiative to help curb the amount of litter flowing into the ocean.
From 16 to 18 December, the Point Yacht Club will host the Flying Fifteen National and the Hobie 16 Regionals.
