TAKING one’s beloved dogs or cats for their annual rabies jab is not the most fun a pet owner can have.
However, last Monday, the State Veterinarian sent a team to cover the Gillitts/Everton area and many of us went to the little park in Everton, thinking it would be the quietest venue, thus least stressful for all.
We were wrong.
There must have been more than 15 cars and at least 30 dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. It was, to put it mildly, a barking circus.
Nervous owners watched the State Vet team arrive, set up their table from which certificates would be issued, and within a matter of minutes, get to work. Calmly and quickly with immense good humour, they tackled big dogs in cars, three cats in a basket and numerous yappy, yappy little dogs on leashes. Owners watched in wonderment as the whole operation was carried out like clockwork.
“Never seen anything like it,” was one comment.
So, very special thanks to team leader Sabashnee and her crew, Titus, Elvis, Petunia, Pius Mkhize and Mamoloko.
Thanks also to Control Animal Health technician Joey Peens, who supplied the names.
Can’t wait for next year.
