I WASTED time going through all the trouble of reporting water loss to eThekwini. I went all the way to Hillcrest and filled out the forms for reporting water loss and was told it would take about 90 days.
Then I got an email from the insurers who said they ‘compared’ the previous three months accounts and told me that because there is no difference in the water usage I cannot claim for any loss.
The water leak was running through the servitude next to my house and as such we never knew about the loss or the loss of funds as my dad used to just pay the accounts without checking them.
A plumber came in and after a long while found the leak and I paid him for the repair.
Now I am told that because my account shows the water usage is the same for three months, I cannot get any refund for the loss and the loss was in the region of R1 000 a month.
I sent them a copy of my recent account which shows them how much I use but apparently this makes no difference as according to them all that matters is your last three accounts, it does not matter if the water loss has been running for a longer period than that.
What an absolute waste of time and how are we to know about these rules and regulations when we pay eThekwini a water loss insurance, but we do not even know who the insurers are and we don’t even have a copy of their rules and regulations regarding water loss.
What a load of rubbish.
