Brett revs up for finals

After months of preparation and getting used to his new ride, Brett Law is confident he will take top titles in the last tow legs of the competition.

PINETOWN-based track racer Brett Law is looking to finish strongly with the last two legs of the competition just around the corner and admits that he has not had the ideal season in the Maxxis 4×4 Track Racing series this year.

Law is currently sitting in seventh place in the modified class of the competition and is confident that he will pick up his game at the Meyerton track on Saturday 28 September, as the series draws to a close.

“I’m hoping to do better than the last leg, where I broke my car,” said Brett. “There was an obstacle with a steep hill and I may have gone in a bit too fast. I hit the obstacle hard and broke my gearbox. My car is still up in Johannesburg at the moment getting worked on, and I am also having my suspension stiffened.”

Law said the season had been a learning curve for him, as he had not only taken on the extreme courses around the country, but faced the challenge of tackling the toughest off-road tracks in a new car.

“I have had to learn and adapt to the new vehicle setup I am using, and that has seen the season not go according to plan for me,” said Brett.

He is confident that later this month, and at the final event in Rayton on 2 November, he will be able to produce an improved performance thanks, in part, to the backing he has received from his sponsors, Time Freight.

“Time Freight have been very good to me, they are almost like family. A lot of the vehicle parts I need have to be shipped from around the country and they have delivered it all for free. They also send out a whole team to the events to support us. I even see some of the Time Freight team handing out water to drivers and marshalls during the events,” said Brett.

Law’s toughest competition this year has come in the form of his youngest rival in the highly competitive modified class, Michael Hudson, who he expects to be the man to beat come the end of the month.

Rory Flett and Andrew Williams, both from KwaZulu-Natal, are close behind Hudson, with only one point separating the top two competitors. Law, from KZN himself, will no doubt give it all he has as the season draws to a close. It promises to be some great 4×4 action.
