WBHS remain unbeaten
Westville Boy's High School pulled off a successful win against Hilton College, winning the match by five wickets.
WESTVILLE Boys’ High School hosted the comeptitive Hillton College on Bowden’s field on 2 November and won the match by five wickets.
Home-side captain Luke Schlemmer won the toss and elected to bowl. WBHS took early wickets and restricted Hilton’s batsmen to 57/4 in 20 overs. New batsman J Eddy however steadied the Hilton ship with his 73 not out, having faced 128 balls. He was involved in two of the biggest partnership in their innings of 48 and 42. Hilton were restricted to a total of 154/5 in their allotted 50 overs.
The Westville bowlers who did the damage in the first innings were Cameron Gordon 2/27 and Simon Von Staden 2/10.
Hilton achieved something that no other side had achieved this year in that they were not bowled out by WBHS. All other opponents including the mighty Waterkloof had both been dismissed with ease.
The second inning began with an early wicket, Westville batsman Jason Oakes sparred at a ball he could have left alone. Nicholas Pentz came in to bat and put a partnership together with Bruce Kerr of 60. After Kerr’s wicket fell Luke Schlemmer and Alex Whitelaw put together a solid partnership of 65 to ensure that Westville would pulled off another comfortable win.
With College and Kearsney still to play, the Highways lads will not be able to rest on their laurels.
WBHS made 155-5 in 45.1 overs. The top run scorers for Westville were Kerr 38(45) and Whitelaw 41(74).
