Bianca strikes with true karate passion
Local karateka, Bianca Daubinet, took top titles in national karate competitions and was invited to attend the Karate World Champs in early November.
NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Forest Hills resident, Bianca Daubinet, is kicking up a storm on the local and international karate stages.
She has been a member of the Budo Karate-do South Africa for more than nine years and said she joined the sport because her younger brother, Jordan, took it up.
“I’m very competitive so I couldn’t let him be bigger, stronger and have the advantage of karate over me, so i joined up too,” said Bianca.
She said her passion for karate has kept her from dropping out through the years. “The community aspect that has developed where I practice karate is really nice and everyone I train with has become like family,” said Bianca.
Before she jetted off to take part in the WFK Karate World Championships Guadalajara in Spain, from 7 to 10 November, she took top honours in the local events.
She won the regional competition in Tongaat and again in the nationals, which also took place in Tongaat. She said a complaint was logged stating that the nationals were not judged fairly so was invited, as part of the top 4 from the nationals, to compete in trials. She won again.
“The World Championships were really amazing as 81 countries competed. I was one of 20 South Africans that went through, but unfortunately none of us placed at the competition.”
“At the World Championships I met a few people who had turned it into a full-time job and relied on it to make a living. I could only imagine the amount of stress that might put on them, so for me, taking that path would remove all of the joy I get from taking part in karate,” said Bianca.
