Varisty College Westville takes on equestrian sport
Varsity College has a new sport on campus.
VARSITY College Westville has given a bursary for the first time ever to a student whose interest is horse-riding.
Rene Hoffmann-Jensen, an equestrian star, will join the campus next year to pursue her first-year studies in law, but said she has also accepted the bursary and the responsibility of being an ambassador for the college. Her trusty horse, Red Hot, whom she had for the past three years, will join her in her ambassadorial role, and has changed its name to Varsity College Red Hot.
Scott Edwards, vice principal of marketing at Varsity College Westville, said the campus established a new bursary as staff found that it was a good opportunity for students and can see it being successful in the future.
“My vision is to grow a mutually beneficial relationship between equestrian students and Varsity College Westville. We are proud to have Rene representing Varsity College Westville and we are looking forward to seeing the sport grow in 2014,” said Edwards.
Rene said she was excited that she will be the first equestrian student to leave behind a legacy at Varsity College Westville. She added that she has big hopes for the sport which includes establishing a riding group or team, as well as captain it for Varsity College, next year.
