Raiders begin pre-season training
The Pinetown Raiders rugby club aims to continue with their winning streak this year through hard work and sheer determination.
THE Pinetown Raiders, formally known as the Pinetown Rugby Football Club, is beginning its season early this year in preparation for what they believe to be their best year yet.
At the end of last year, the team earned the title of Findley Cup Champions and the club has plans to reclaim a trophy at this year’s East Coast Tens, win the Walker Cup League as well as retain the title of Findley Cup Champions. Having eight players selected for the 2013 DRSU Regional Side, as well as one player being selected to play in the Varsity Shield Side in 2014, the club is producing talent and a great atmosphere for players to further their rugby career.
“Pinetown Raiders has grown from strength to strength during the course of the 2013 season, and with the structures we have in place and the leadership we have in the club’s management we are positive that this year is going to be our best yet,” said Andrew Dyer the club’s captain. “We have started training early this year to get a head start on the competition. We have entered a side into the South Coast Sevens Tournament, which is being played in early February. As a club, we have a habit of winning and hard work leading up to an event like this is the building block to success.”
Pre-season training has begun and all players are urged to join the practice sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at Lahee Park from 5.45pm. “The season has promised some great warm-up games, as well as pre-league tournaments to get us into the swing of things,” said Dyer.
