AFL returns to Durban
Hillcrest duo will test their brawn at the annual AFL tournament.
JORDAN Joubert (17) and Lloyd Robbins (19), of Hillcrest, will be competing in the AFL20: Knock Out Cruelty tournament on Friday 25 April at 6.30pm, at the UKZN Old Mutual Sports Hall.
Mark Delafield, the event coordinator, reported that 20 weight categorised fights have been scheduled for the event. “There is, unfortunately, always the chance that the number of fights may decline, as fighters could sustain an injury before the tournament, or they don’t make weight. But, we remain optimistic that it will not be the case,” said Delafield.
Joubert, who will be celebrating his 18th birthday before the tournament, will be competing in his first adult fight. During his junior league Joubert achieved three wins and only lost one match. In his first fight Joubert beat an experienced and undefeated fighter. He will be competing in the lightweight category and has to lose 4kg in order to reach the required weight.
Fellow fighter, Robbins, is relatively new to the sport, and will be competing in the bantam category. He has achieved two wins and zero losses. “We are all excited to see how the promising Hillcrest duo will fair at the tournament,” said Delafield.
The MMA and kickboxing fighter, Saxon Delafield, also known as the One Minute Monster, and Armand de Bruin will also be competing in the tournament. Tickets cost R120 per person.
