The Pinetown Raiders' two main teams won both matches against their Queensburgh rivals recently.
THE Pinetown Raiders took on Queensburgh’s rugby team last Saturday at what is known as The House of Pain in Queensburgh.
The preparations in the Raiders’ camp, leading up to the game, made waves throughout the Highway area. The excitement and anticipation was said to be felt at their practices as should they win, with a 5 point victory, it would put Raiders at the top of the log.
The Raiders Extra XV started the day off on a great note as they scored their first of many tries early in the game. Playing a much quicker game than that played by Queensburgh, the Raiders ran in multiple tries in the first half, moving past the 30 point mark with ease. Following on the success of the Extra XV, Raiders First XV marched onto the field with a point to prove. Playing in the heat of the afternoon, the game started off slowly with penalty kicks ruling the score board in the first half, 6 – 0 to Raiders. The one try opened the flood gates and the Raiders backs scored an additional three tries. The final score was 33 – 13. This secured the team with a bonus point from the game.
