Raiders smash to 45-0 victory
Local rugby team, Pinetown Raiders, now sit at the top of the log on the local league board.
THE Pinetown Raiders rugby team ran rampant last Saturday when they played against the Crusaders at Lahee park.
As the Crusaders had not entered a team in last year’s league, they were a mystery side to the Raiders as they did not know the team’s abilities prior to the game. In preparation, the Raiders selected a stronger pack in an effort to retain the first phase ball.
The game, kicked off by the Crusaders, gave Raiders the opportunity to begin the game on the offence and from the offset, they showed their pace out wide, taking phase on phase to the outside backs.
“I am very happy with the team’s performance on the day. Going into the game not knowing the opposition, we had to stick to the basics, which the guys did well,” said coach, Grant Trefz.
“Displaying great unity in the camp, every phase seemed planned out as each player performed his function with the utmost confidence. Through the game, complacency was not an issue and even with the support of the reserves entering the field, the team’s momentum did not slide.”
The game ended with Raiders winning with a comfortable 45-0 victory. This put the home side on the top of the log, as they had claimed full points from their opening three games.
