Westville winners worthy of Curro 7s rugby trophy
Westville takes home the trophy.
Westville Senior Primary School were the worthy winners of the second edition of the Curro National U13 7s Series held at the Curro Hillcrest Christian Academy (HCA) playing fields.
The tournament saw top rugby playing schools compete for the title of Cup winners. With the likes of Westville, Gelofte, Kloof, Hillcrest, Atholl Heights, Forest View and Curro HCA, to name a few, there was some outstanding talent on display.
The day started with the pool rounds. With four pools of three teams, teams had to place in the top two of their respective pools to advance into the quarter finals of the Cup. The teams that finished in third place were entered into the running for the Plate trophy.
The semi finals for the Plate trophy saw Forest View taking on Lyndhurst and Kloof taking on Curro Embury. The games were evenly matched but the final between Kloof and Forest View saw Kloof come out as the winners.
The exciting fight for the top prize saw Westville, Gelofte, Hillcrest and Curro HCA advancing to the semi-finals with Westville vs Gelofte and Hillcrest vs Curro HCA. The nail biting final was between Westville and Hillcrest with Westville taking the honours.
The day was wrapped up with Sharks and Springbok player, Stefan Terblanche, giving the players a memorable talk and applauding them for the wonderful rugby that was on display. He was also present to hand over the winners trophies and congratulate each player for their efforts and determination.
