Raiders gear up for first home game
Pinetown Rugby Club invites residents to attend their first home game, which will be held at their new venue.
PINETOWN Raiders will be hosting their first home game at their new venue, Ashley Sports Club, on Saturday, 9 May. The Extra XV side kicks off at 1:30pm against Ogwini Bafana, and Starting XV at 3pm against Durban Collegians. The club has invested their time and effort to provide a better facility and they invite new players to take advantage of the new opportunities. They encourage residents to attend the game and those who would like to join the club are also encouraged to make their way down to the new premises. The club is a non-profit organisation and therefore encourage sponsors to join them in their mission to promote the sport among communities.
Weekend match results:
Pinetown Raiders Extra XV showed great potential at the weekend since facing Scottburgh last week. The team was motivated to make an impact early on in the game, for every try Pinetown conceded they answered back with their own.
Danie Flamming was elected Man of the Match for his influential contribution at flyhalf, but due to a previous injury he was taken off 10 minutes into the second half, causing momentum to shift in Queensburgh’s favour.
Extra XV lost 27-12. Raiders’ first XV came out firing for their match, but due to loss of key players early in the game, Queensburgh pounced on the opportunity to capitalise and the Raiders team found themselves 12-0 down at half-time. In true Raiders fighting spirit, they bounced back and scored two excellent tries by Raymond Hobbs and Robbie Skilton respectively. However, it’s never over till the last whistle, and the Raiders team missed out on the win with 19-10 to Queensburgh. Man of the Matches went to Sheldon Phillips and a gutsy Langa Luvuno.
