Shezi scores best time in seventh marathon
An Embo resident shares details about his Comrades Marathon journey.
2015 marked a memorable year for Hlalazi Shezi who completed his seventh Comrades Marathon. The Embo father of one obtained his best time this year, by completing the race in six hours and 36 minutes. Shezi who has been part of the Hillcrest Villagers for the past nine years, said he trained for three hours a week and didn’t follow a specific diet while training for the race.
The determined athlete who has been employed as a car guard at The Pot and Kettle, Botha’s Hill for eight years, is aiming to achieve his goal of completing 10 Comrades Marathons. “The most challenging part of the marathon starts after 70kms. That is when I start experiencing cramps and feel the strain. I don’t wear a watch during the race, I just stay focused on carrying my body to the finish line. A lot of hard work and training goes into this race, but it is all worth it.”
Shezi thanked Heidi Devitt for her assistance and continuous help in regards to the registration process and preparation for the race.
