Westville karateka rake in medals

The local team is currently preparing for the national competition in Durban and Cape Town.

WESTVILLE karateka brought top honours to their home dojo as they attained their 2017 KZN caps at the Karate KZN championships at the Tongaat Sports Centre recently.

The SKISA students train under Sensei Brando Pillay, the national Protea coach for karate in South Africa and technical convenor for KZN Karate.

Riasha Singh retained her title as champion for both the Kata and Kumite senior female events and provided a spectacular performance. “I am elated that I could keep my KZN titles and am training really hard to become the national champion again,” she said.

Sensei Brando said, “I am working with a disciplined, young and ambitious team and will work even harder this year to take them all the way to the top level of karate competition.”

The local karateka are currently training hard and aiming for gold at the upcoming karate nationals to be held in Durban and Cape Town.
