Locals step it up at gruelling trail run

If trail running is your thing, be sure to sign up for the next exciting race, the Kwa-Ximba Trail Run in October.

THE weather was perfect for the Kloof Conservancy’s exhilarating Three Falls Trail run recently.

The winner of the men’s category was Phumlani Mngadi who finished in a record time of 1:40:08.

The women’s race was won by Zoe Papadakis in a time of 02:20:12.

Due to the popularity of the event, organisers were flooded with substitutions in the 10 days heading into the race.

“We are extremely grateful to all the participants for supporting this event and for making it so popular,” said the conservancy’s chairman, Paolo Candotti.

The funds, as well as additional funds from its reserves, were used to buy the new information display at Kloof Falls picnic site as well as the printing of the brilliant new map.

Paolo thanked Forest View Primary School, Riversmead Farm, Burblepix, 32Gi, Kantey and Templer, GCS Environmental Consultants, Don’s Deliveries, Riverside Trail Running Club, CC Food and Beverage, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Krantzkloof Honorary Officers, SANParks Honorary Rangers, Hamnet KZN and Durban Green Corridors.

“We want to keep this event true to the real spirit of trail running, great trails in a stunning environment for the love of nature, affordable and with all the funds going to conservation. We would like to keep this formula for as long as we have the volunteers to make it happen,” said Paolo.

In partnership with the Kwa-Ximba Conservancy, there will be a Kwa-Ximba Trail Run on Sunday, 15 October.
