Sweeping win for local MMA club
Four of the athletes who claimed top positions at the recent championship will compete in the Africa Open Champs and the Worlds later on this year.
A GROUP of talented MMA (mixed martial arts) fighters from the local Smackworks claimed podium finishes in the recent South African MMA Amateur Championships in Brakpan.
Sabelo Maguduleloe (U61 juniors bantam weight) took bronze, Kirsten Chananie (U66 featherweight) took gold, Adei Volker (U93 light heavy weight) took silver and Chad Wilkie (U93 light heavy weight) claimed gold. The group will now compete in the IMMAF WMMAA Africa Open Champs in May.

“I am really proud of my team as they have been training hard and are looking fit and ready, I would let them fight tomorrow if I could,” said the Smackworks coach, Armand De Bruyn.
“They have really all stepped up their game and have all qualified for the World Championships in Bahrain in November.”
