A village of support flows in for Alma

Through its annual fund-raising initiative, the Hillcrest Villagers' Rugby Club and the Old School Villagers' XV were able to raise more than R100 000 for the brave 16-year-old.

THROUGH its double #Rugby4Alma events, the Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club and the Old School Villagers’ XV raised a total of R110 000 for the brave teen, Alma van Heerden.

On 25 October last year, the 16-year-old’s life changed forever as she was diagnosed with acute lymphoid leukaemia.

The family thought they were covered with their medical aid, but were recently told Alma’s treatments would no longer be covered.

Still needing another few months of treatments, including chemotherapy, blood tests, lumbar punctures and bone marrow biopsies, the caring team at Hillcrest Villagers’ chose to help raise much-needed funds.

“The Old School Villagers XV and Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club would just like to thank the Upper Highway community for all the support we received for our #Rugby4Alma Charity Day. We raised R 110 000.00 in support of Alma’s treatment. This would not be possible without the overwhelming support we receive from our local community members and businesses alike,” said the Old School Villagers XV’s Travis Duggan.
