Kirsten is a swimming success

Kloof Senior Primary School's SPAR Star of Month - June.

KIRSTEN De Goede is Kloof Senior Primary School’s SPAR Star of the Month.

The Grade 5 pupil said she started swimming when she was in Grade R at Kloof Junior Primary School, but only started to compete in swimming events last year.

So far this year, Kirsten has raked in award after award and her medal collection has grown exponentially. She took part in the 400m long distance race at her school and broke the record by a whopping 58 seconds. She swam in each of the races at the gala and was able to break four of five records.

Kirsten then took part in the North Durban Swimming Academy Gala at Kings Park swimming pool and took home six gold medals, two silver medals and received a trophy for being the overall winner in her age group.

At the end of March she took part in the South African Level 2 Championships in Sasolburg and won two gold medals, four silver medals and one bronze medal.

To add to her currently bursting list of accomplishments, the 11-year-old also took part in her first Midmar Mile in 29 minutes. “I had to take part to see if I could beat my main competitor’s time, which I did,” said Kirsten.

“I started swimming because I had this sudden want to do it and I have had to work really hard to get where I am now, so it is starting to pay off,” said Kirsten.

Her hopes for the future are to join the Olympic swimming group at her swimming club. She also said she would like to become either a physiotherapist, doctor or a brain surgeon.
