Watch: Playful elephant entertains visitors in Kruger National Park

A young bull elephant’s clumsy antics turned into an unexpected highlight for tourists in South Africa.

A group of visitors from Holland on safari in the Kruger National Park witnessed a light-hearted moment when a young bull elephant rolled comically around on a road while trying to find its footing and get back up.

The unusual sight was captured on video by Mark Fox of Exploring Kruger, a safari tour operator who runs guided tours with his wife, Gail.

The footage was captured last week and posted on the couple’s Facebook page, Exploring Kruger, yesterday (May 18). The video has already garnered thousands of views.

Fox says that after spotting the elephant lying on the road, he stopped about 50m away so they could enjoy the spectacle.

He says the bull had probably just woken up from a snooze and its clumsy attempts to right itself gave them a laugh.

When it eventually got up, it mock charged them.

“We remained calm and the elephant retreated. My guests thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

He says he uses his experience as a ranger to teach people about wildlife, while Gail runs a YouTube channel, named after the business, where she uploads videos teaching viewers about various animal facts.
