NPO needs help for disabled children after an unsuccessful fundraiser

“The turnout does not bring us down because failure is a stepping stone.”

Sakhi and Monde Cares (SMC) NPO plead for support following an unsuccessful fundraiser event held at JD Thomas Hall in Eden Park, on October 16.

The event was meant to help raise funds for disabled children attending special-needs schools around Kathorus.

The founder of SMC, Nomonde Nsibande, said although the event experienced a low turnout from the community, several community members, including children and performing artists came to the event ready.

They enjoyed various performances from young and up-and-coming performers, including dancers Infinity Movers from Villa Lisa.

Music performances were from Young fizzy RSA, Kakapa, DK, Ms Blvk, Ab slayer and A steezy punisher, while poet Sipho Tshabalala shared his composition.

Nsibande said moving forward, they have to strategise and look for other ways to raise funds.

The NPO invested approximately R2 000, which included food for attendees, booking the venue, transport and the sound system.

She said they do not view it as a loss as this was their first fundraiser event and they were able to give back and feed children in the community.

“The turnout does not bring us down because failure is a stepping stone. We have seen things that we can try to avoid next time we plan an event of this nature.

“The turnout was good for a first event, we made a difference in the community. We found other youngsters who are interested in what we are doing and who we can groom and train,” said Nsibande.

Even though the event did not fulfil its intended purpose, which was to raise funds to help disabled children with food, sanitary pads, school uniforms and shoes, the NPO’s work continues as it looks for other ways to raise funds.

It intends to host another fundraiser event soon. Details of the event will be shared once made available.
