WATCH: Katlehong artist releases new music video

“I started gaining experience around early 2011 when I was offered a mixing job. I was mixing live and interacting with various bands every night.”

Award-winning artist and founder of Shukushukuma Entertainment Production Nhlanhla ‘Djy Spetla’ Phiri from Katlehong released a new music video, which will be followed by an EP at the end of April.

Djy Spetla officially released visuals for Phakama Ma-Africa on March 25. He featured local talents Fire and Kev Lex on the song, which was released independently on all digital stores in 2021.

The young star is a DJ, sound engineer and music producer. He began his career in 2011 and has since released four studio albums.

“I started gaining experience around early 2011 when I was offered a mixing job. I was mixing live and interacting with various bands every night.”

He said working as a producer can be time-consuming, considering the late and long hours spent in the studio, and a constant scramble to get paying work in the beginning.

“But the real people who support your dreams will understand and love you regardless. I care about the music more than the money. I’m not trying to put down the people who do this work, I want to inspire more people to produce out of love and not just for the bling,” said Djy Spetla.

He won an award for Best Amapiano Artist of the Year 2022 at the SAUMA8 Awards.

Unlike many artists who would usually box themselves to one genre, the DJ focuses on various genres, including house music, amapiano, classical, kwaito, RnB and gospel.

The music video for Phakama Ma-Africa is available on YouTube.
