Thami Xala Foundation donates school shoes

Learners at Rondebult Primary received much-needed school shoes through a community initiative focused on dignity, education and hope.

The Thami Xala Foundation has once again made a meaningful difference in the lives of learners at Rondebult Primary School by donating much-needed school shoes to underprivileged learners.

The initiative, which forms part of the foundation’s ongoing community programmes, is rooted in a simple yet powerful belief that every child deserves dignity, confidence, and equal opportunity in their educational journey.

For many learners at the Germiston-based school, this donation represents far more than just a pair of shoes; it is a symbol of hope and belonging.

According to the founder, Thami Xala, the foundation has consistently supported the school through its annual shoe drive, with hundreds of learners benefiting over the years.

In one of the recent drives, nearly 200 pairs of new school shoes were handed over to learners in need, ensuring that no child has to walk to school barefoot, especially during the harsh winter months.

Speaking on the motivation behind the initiative, Thami highlighted the emotional impact of seeing children attend school in worn-out shoes or without any footwear at all.

This reality inspired the foundation to act, not only to meet a basic need but to restore pride and self-esteem among young learners.

“The school has a high number of learners in need and by taking that one challenge of buying school supplies off the table, we have made a difference.

“We are building a future for these children. The power of kindness goes a long way in healing hearts and offering hope,” said Thami.

Teachers and school stakeholders have welcomed the intervention, noting that proper school attire, including shoes, plays a critical role in boosting learners’ confidence, attendance, and overall academic focus.

The donation also brings relief to many families facing financial hardship, particularly in communities where unemployment and poverty remain prevalent. The foundation has also recently donated paint to the school.

The Thami Xala Foundation, established in 2021, has positioned itself as a beacon of hope in underserved communities, focusing on addressing social challenges such as poverty, hunger, and inequality.
Beyond school shoe donations, the organisation has also been involved in projects such as school renovations, feeding schemes, and youth empowerment initiatives.

Early in the year, they also visited Sunward High School with actor Muzi Mthabela to motivate the matriculants.

Visiting schools in the Germiston area is close to our hearts. Learners come from different backgrounds, and sometimes they might not be receiving enough support at home, and such visits might be the push they need. To say we know we see that you’re struggling, but it gets better and that there is hope,” said Thami.

For the learners of Rondebult Primary, the gesture goes beyond material support; it reinforces the message that they are seen, valued, and supported by their community.

As smiles replaced uncertainty during the handover, it became clear that small acts of kindness can create a lasting impact.

The foundation continues to call on individuals, businesses, and community members to support its initiatives, emphasising that collective effort is key to building a brighter future for South Africa’s children.
