Ekurhuleni’s emergency services on high alert after weather warning

CoE disaster and emergency management services calls for vigilance from residents, especially traditional and religious groups intending to perform baptism in rivers.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services is on high alert following a weather warning by the South African Weather Services (SAWS) of a ‘yellow level four: disruptive rain’ forecast.

CoE’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson, William Ntladi, said: “We would like to send a message of caution to residents of the City and for them to be on high alert, especially those living in low-lying areas, those living near wetlands, and those living near river streams due to the possibility of flooding.

“River streams will be filled days after the heavy downpours, so we would like to warn traditional and religious groups intending to perform baptism in rivers and other rituals to bear in mind the possibility of them drowning,” added Ntladi. The city’s residents are encouraged to call 011 458 0911 to report any emergencies in Ekurhuleni.
