Youth in dire need to be properly empowered

My name is Norah Matona from Vosloorus, born in Pimville, Soweto.

I am inspired by the youth of Thokoza. My story is long but I will try to be brief. I need help and have decided to write to you after I read an article about the youth from the community of Thokoza receiving their certification at Sandton Square next to Nelson Mandela’s statue.

I was highly impressed and wished that something like this could also happen in Vosloorus and Pimville, where I was born.

Our youth need to be empowered because most of them have given up on life due to the many disadvantages and challenges they face.

The majority of them don’t even understand that this is not the end of the world, as many of them often believe they face insurmountable odds. Training can be offered to the youth in all the provinces.

Some responsible adults can be placed in these training programs to improve their small businesses. As citizens, most of us have worked in many industries and companies that manufacture products, from clothing manufacturers to furnishers and many other fields.

Those of us who have the experience can transfer the same experience and pass these skills on to the youth and work with them to create jobs. Please help me take this idea forward.

The R350 grant is not enough, though others have started small businesses with it.

Norah Matona
