Support the heart of Joburg by participating in the Absa Run Your City Joburg 10K Series on September 23 and running for four local charities.

When participating in the series, runners and walkers will be supporting one or all of the event’s four charities: Reach For A Dream (RFAD) Foundation, Cotlands, Johannesburg SPCA, and Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.

When entering the Absa Series online, participants have the option of supporting one of four local charities.

Michael Meyer, MD of Stillwater Sports and founder of the Absa Run Your City Series, said they are proud to continue supporting four fantastic charities in 2023.

“Each charity fulfils a vital role in its community, and we would like to encourage runners and walkers to show their support by donating when entering the event online. No amount is too small. Sign up today and make your run count,” said Meyer.

Kerry Donkin, Reach For A Dream regional manager, said it was wonderful being part of the Absa Run Your City Series, a series that features well-organised and well-supported events.

“We love that the series highlights the beautiful cities and encourages participants to support local charities. We were thrilled in 2022 when runners chose to support RFAD and our beautiful dreamers.

“The funds raised were used to fulfil dreams for children in the Joburg area who are facing life-threatening illnesses. We would like to thank those entrants that have supported us over the years. All donations, no matter how big or small, go a long way in making dreams come true,” said Donkin.

CEO of Cotlands Dr Monic Stach said: “Cotlands is honoured to be selected as a charity of the Absa Run Your City Series. We appreciate the organiser’s help with exposure to a mass group of runners that run for a purpose.”

Dr Stach said the event brings together people of different ages from diverse backgrounds and encourages them to participate in a healthy and active lifestyle, do good for their communities, and help worthy causes.

“The atmosphere on race day was fantastic in 2022. We are immensely grateful to all the runners who supported Cotlands, especially those who have supported us since the race’s inception. The support allows us to reach more children and positively impact their lives through early learning playgroups and toy libraries,” said Dr Stach.

Johannesburg SPCA public relations, marketing and fundraising manager, Liana Marx said they had a great time at the Absa Run Your City Joburg 10k in 2022.

“Everyone who took part staff, committee members and supporters could not stop talking about all the fun that they had on the event day. They are looking forward to taking part again this year.

“We were humbled by the support that we received. Community outreach is a key focus this year and the funds received were utilised to purchase blankets and food and provide basic animal care in our outreach communities. To all Jozi residents, come support a charity by having fun with family and friends,” said Marx.

Flo Bird, Johannesburg Heritage Foundation chairperson they are honoured to be one of the beneficiaries of the Absa series.

“The JHF celebrates and protects the diverse heritage of our city, ensuring its survival for future generations. We support any initiative that gets people out and about on the streets of Joburg, and thoroughly enjoy the positive spirit that’s always on display at the Absa series.

“We wish all the participants a happy and healthy race. Enjoy the experience of running through the streets of Joburg and don’t forget to appreciate the special charms of our fascinating city in all its diversity. It’s fitting that the event is taking place on Heritage Day and we look forward to being part of the festivities,” said Bird.
