Ndebele shines

The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) in partnership with Sage Pastel Accounting presented the awards of the Gauteng top learners who performed well in the SAICA-Sage Pastel Accounting Olympiad at Ponelopele Oracle High School on Friday last week.

The overall winner Praise Ndebele won himself an I pad and R2000 checque after has beaten all the national learners with the 92% mark in accounting subject. The second winner Mokwape Molebatsi past with 88% and was awarded R1000 checque while her third place winners, Tshepo Radebe and Aqeel Wadee both attained 87% mark and were also awarded R1000 cheques.

The project director for transformation, growth and professional development at SAICA, Gugu Makhanya encouraged the learners at Oracle High School to chose subjects like mathematics as it opens many doors to rewarding careers. “The career of a chartered accountant may be demanding but it is a very rewarding. I urge learners to make good choices and pursuecareer as chartered accountants,” she said. A representative from the department of education, Johannesburg East District, Sector Manager Peter Mothapo congratulated all the top learners as well as the organisers and the sponsors. ” The department of education can not do on its work without the support of sponsors such as Sage Pastel and organisers such as SAICA. We are very grateful to themand we hope to grow such initiatives in the future,” he said. MeanwhileSage Pastel‘s representative Jerry Skei gave learners a brief background about his global company and thanked them for their participation in the event.

“We are encouraged by the increased participation of both learners and teachers in this exciting and growing initiative. We invite more learners to participate in the future. We are proud to be associated with these talented learners and teachers,” he said.

Ponelopele Oracle High School accounting subject teacher Cynthia Mgubane was awarded R5000 for being the teacher of the overall winner. The school principal Mokgopa Leso said that Ndebele is an asset not only to the school but to the whole nation. “He is a hard working learner. I am certain that he is going to contribute economically to the country. With the teacher, I saw the success coming to our school because she displayed the extra ordinary commitment and dedication to her work. She always avail herself to the learners beyond the allocated contact time,” he said He added that it is through hard work and doing all the basics that are needed by a learner in order for one to become successful.

The delighted looking Praise Ndebele told The Tembisan that he believes hard work pays. “I know this is an inspiration to other learners. If I can make it, they too can make it only if they work hard and do not limit themselves. I encourage all the learners to grasp every opportunity that comes their way,” he said.

He concluded by saying that with the checque, he is going to buy himself clothes for their matric dance ceremony.
