Elderly man’s house renovated
Hope was restored when an elderly man's house was recently renovated.
The Ward 5 councillor, Clr Moeketsi Mvalo, with Makgothamisa Building Contractors and Ke-Marota Trading employees took on the challenge of restoring the elderly resident’s dilapidated house.Mr Paul Monnakgotla has lived in the dilapidated house for several years, but was unable to renovate it. The house had no running water or electricity.
Clr Mvalo said his ward committee members informed him about the house and quick action was taken before someone was injured.
“I went to the house and felt it may collapse at any time. It is an old house and the conditions were really bad. I approached the contractors to help with the renovations,” said Clr Mvalo.
He said it was heartwarming to see business people caring about people in need.

“The two contractors responded and have took the steps necessary to refurbish the house. I am delighted to have helped. It is all about service delivery and changing people’s lives in the community,” he added.
The site agent from Makgothamisa Building Construction, Mr Paul Clayton, said they always give back to the areas they are deployed.
“I was shocked and could not believe someone was living in the house. The whole house was really bad. We were happy to help the elderly man,” said Mr Clayton.
New doors, windows tiles and painting were installed at the house. Water and electricity were also connected.
Mr Monnakgotla thanked all those who participated with restoring his house.
“I am happy and I appreciate everything they did for me. I could not afford to renovate my house, as I rely solely on my pension. I thank God for bringing positive people into my life and for bringing me new hope. I am going to enjoy every minute in my house,” said Mr Monnakgotla.
Mr Monnakgotla’s nephew, Mr Thokozani Mabaso, said he was excited because the family did not have the funds to help with the renovations.
“It was heartening to see their genuine enthusiasm for the project. All is done by the grace of God. I hope God empowers and enriches all the people who took part in the project. They have done a fantastic job,” said Mr Mabaso.
