SPCA overflowing following festive fireworks
The SPCA made 40 call-outs during the holidays

THE Kempton Park SPCA kennels are overflowing with animals that were either brought in by their owners or picked up on the streets over New Year.
While many companies shut down during the festive season to enjoy a much deserved break, the SPCA worked overtime with the large number of dogs that were picked up while running away from fireworks.
Two dogs were impaled on a fence in an attempt to flee from the fireworks.
The SPCA made 40 call-outs during the holidays.
Inspectors William Mzimba and Charmaine Joubert were on duty during the time. According to them this season was the worst and busiest for them as it seemed there was an increase in the number of fireworks set off over New Year this season.
They said many pet owners also gave up their animals to the SPCA as they were leaving for the holidays, adding to the already enormous group of animals that are being housed.
Other pet owners left their animals to fend for themselves with no water or food. These animals were also picked up.
Pet owners who have lost their animals are requested to come in to the SPCA to check if their furry canines have been found.
