Jeugland pupil (15) killed in freak accident
His family thanks everybody for their support during this difficult time
“IT should not have happened this way.”
These were the words of Ricky Jones whose son, also Ricky (15), was killed in a freak bicycle accident on Laurie Road in Edenvale on Friday afternoon.
Ricky junior, a grade nine learner at Hoƫrskool Jeugland, was on his way home on his bicycle after visiting a friend when the accident happened.
Him and his friend were riding along Laurie Street. His friend said goodbye and turned back home.
Ricky was riding on the grass on the sidewalk and hit a broken curb. He lost his balance and fell in front of a passing truck. The truck drove over him, killing him on impact.
“We used to ride our bikes together a lot and Ricky knew the road so well,” Jones senior said on Tuesday.
“Ricky’s death was a shock but we now know he is with our Father in heaven.”
His mother, Christa, posted the following on Facebook:
“Thank you all for the kind words, condolences and support for our son Ricky Jones. He was loved by so many and will be remembered for the way he lived his life …
“He touched so many people’s lives, because that’s the type of young man our son was … energetic, vibrant, inquisitive, enthusiastic, happy and FULL of life; and wow, a personality beyond words!!
“But what truly made him special was how soft his heart was.
“Woorde is so min en ons gaan hom verskriklik baie mis, maar weet dat hy by ons Almagtige God en Vader is.”
Ricky’s funeral service will be held at noon tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Dutch Reformed Church on the corner of Loretha and Blouborsie streets in Van Riebeeck Park.
Jeugland pupils who want to attend the service are requested to wear their school uniforms.
Ricky also leaves behind a younger sister, Chantell (13).
