Pregnant woman critically injured in early morning accident
Two other people sustained minor injuries
A pregnant woman was critically injured this morning following a collision between two vehicles at the Great North and Elgin roads intersection.
ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, responded through the heavy morning traffic. On arrival, they found one vehicle on the side of the road while the second sat in the middle of the intersection.
On assessment, paramedics found that a woman, who is eight months pregnant, lay trapped inside the passenger seat of the vehicle in a critical condition.
Provincial services used the jaws-of-life to free the woman from the wrecked vehicle. Once freed, paramedics treated and provided advanced life support intervention.
The ER24 helicopter was called to transport the critically injured patient to a private hospital for urgent treatment. Two other patients were found on the scene with minor injuries. They were treated and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
