Sergeant Mabunda from Ekurhuleni North District Social Crime Prevention welcomed attendees and outlined the programme’s purpose, which focused on encouraging, recognising, and providing spiritual support for SAPS members.
VisPol Operations Manager and SAPS representative for fathers, Captain Sandile Gudu, shared a message reflecting on fathers’ roles as leaders both at home and in the community.
“I want to talk about a father, someone who is a pillar of strength. My children once said to me, even if this world could end in the next generation, we would still choose you,” said Gudu.

“A father should be someone who brings peace into the home. When you walk through the door, your family should feel safe and united, even when you are tired from work.”
During the devotional segment, various pastors delivered messages of encouragement, reminding police officers that they serve with purpose and are called to remain strong and resilient amid daily challenges.
Speakers also acknowledged the critical role SAPS members play not only in protecting communities, but also as providers, mentors and role models within their families.
They further recognised the sacrifices made by officers who often spend special days on duty, away from their loved ones, in service of public safety.
The programme also included a call for officers to play an active role in addressing gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), and to ensure that women and children feel safe in their communities and homes.
The fathers in attendance were presented with gifts as a token of appreciation for their service and commitment.

Organisers said such initiatives play an important role in strengthening morale and well-being among police officers, while reinforcing the value of spiritual support, unity and community partnership in the fight against crime.
The event concluded with prayers for the Republic of South Africa, SAPS members and their families, national safety and security, and efforts to address GBVF and protect youth and children.
