BigStar Johnson crowned king of rap

Rakumako walked away with R250 000 in cash, a record and management deal valued at R250 000, a R100 000 music video for his winning song Get It and a six-month public relations contract.

KEMPTON’s big star Tumelo Rakumako (24), aka BigStar Johnson, has been crowned as The Hustle winner.

The live finale show was broadcast on Tuesday, September 15.

The Birchleigh North rapper, producer, self-taught drummer, pianist, bass player and teacher said he was feeling extremely blessed.

“I am feeling happy, blessed and way up, the response of the people has been nothing short of amazing and I am feeling very grateful. I just want to say thank you to everybody for showing their love,” said Rakumako.

The DSTV Vuzu Amp show started with 20 contestants and BigStar Johnson was the firm fan favourite.

BigStar Johnson and ShabZi Madallion were the final two rappers competing for the coveted title and prize. The winner was determined by public vote. “To everybody who voted for me I cannot say thank you enough. When someone votes for you it is an indication that they believe in you and I appreciate each and every person who took the time to vote.”

Despite Rakumako coming out on top, the two will remain friends. “ShabZi and I will forever be brothers and people can expect a lot of music with a lot of guys from the show.”

Rakumako walked away with R250 000 in cash, a record and management deal valued at R250 000, a R100 000 music video for his winning song Get It and a six-month public relations contract.

“The first thing I plan to do with the money is to throw a huge chunk of it into a savings account or into investments. The rest will go into my music,” he replied. “The experience was life changing. We learnt so much from the production team, judges as well as each other in a very short space of time. I will cherish this experience forever,” Rakumako added.

“As cliché as this sounds the future genuinely looks bright and people can expect to hear a whole lot more from this boy.”
