Warbirds over Kempton
The Spitfire is the most famous of all aircraft which flew in World War 2
BARNSTORMERS Model Flying Club, near Kempton Park, recently paid tribute to all those brave airmen who flew in World War 1 and World War 2.
Heinie’s annual Warbird’s Day attracted a crowd of over 1 000 spectators to watch skilled model aircraft pilots demonstrate the type of flying their full size counterparts achieved in defence of their countries.
It is 101 years since the start of World War 1 and the Tiger Moth flown by Justin Lees trained many pilots before they moved on to fighter aircraft such as the Sopwith Camel and Nieuport 17.
During this commemorative flight all the spectators kept totally silent and removed their hats in respect of the recent passing of long-standing club members Maurice Higgins and Eric Ousman.
The Spitfire is the most famous of all aircraft which flew in World War 2 and used to escort bombers such as the Lancaster and Wellington to protect them against Messerschmitts and other German aircraft.
Over 80 replica aircraft were flown during the day and they represented most of the countries which were involved in both wars.
Barnstormers Model Aircraft Club salute all airmen worldwide and will continue to encourage members of the public to be interested in model aircraft flying.
