Wasted clothing now available
The clothing range includes beanies, T-shirt, vests, crop tops, caps, bags, and sweaters
THE word “wasted” usually has negative connotations and is usually associated with young people and a party lifestyle. Two Kempton youngsters have taken the word and decided to use it positively.
Bupe Masuku (21) and Frans Masedi (20), who have been friends since primary school and live in the Kempton CBD, are the founders of ‘Wasted’, a fashion label that was launched in 2010.
“The reason we chose the name is because it’s a word that the youth use a lot, so because they are our target market it will draw their attention,” said Masedi.
The two, however, strongly pointed out that they were using the word positively through their clothing.
These friends started their business by saving their pocket money.
“We invested in ourselves to start this,” added Masedi.
“This is a youth movement that represents young people who are outgoing, confident, and not afraid to express themselves,” pointed out Masuku.
The clothing range includes beanies, T-shirts, vests, crop tops, caps, bags, and sweaters.
Masedi and Masuku use Facebook and Whatsapp to market their products and hope to become an international brand.
“We are still saving up capital for a shop,” they said.
“A lot of people look to government for help and keep saying government has failed us. We want to start something that will create employment, and eventually have shops across South Africa before going international,” explained Masuku.
The two matriculated in 2012.
Their style icons are international musicians Pharell and Kanye West.
Wasted is not just a fashion label, but is also an events management and promotions company.
