Thembalami goes traditional with taste

The event was colourful, inclusive, and representative of South Africa’s cultural diversity, with everyone dressed in an amazing arrange of traditional clothes.

Colourful clothes and delicious food characterised Thembalami care centre’s Heritage Day celebrations on September 23.

The residents, who spend three days each week as part of the Zamokuhle outreach programme, cooked up a storm alongside staff members.

Fondly called the gogos, these senior citizens usually spend their time at Thembalami enjoying a meal cooked for them by the centre, getting health advice and interacting with their peers.

To mark Heritage Day, a handful of gogos donned aprons and cooked for the residents and staff, as well as the other Zamokuhle participants.

The event was colourful, inclusive, and representative of South Africa’s cultural diversity, with everyone dressed in an amazing arrange of traditional clothes.
